Norman and Family Austria/ Switzerland Holiday July 1978

This page is the home of a number of slides which I have scanned from my Father’slide box.

This was our 2 weeks holiday of 1978 of two families together. Chrissy stayed at home, and would have looked after the dog (Gaffer?). We took 2 cars across the ferry (Dover to Bologne I think) and drove across France to Switzerland and on into Austria. Did we camp on the shores of Lake Plannerzee (something like)?

Colin drove his Dad’s Fiat. I was in my Mum and Dad’s car (a Vauxhall). We headed for the mountains and stayed in Eurocamp tents at several campsites. The tents were hired and set up for us.

It was a lovely holiday, but there was a lot of driving. I seem to remember that we had trouble in our car with keeping up with Colin!

L to R: Fiona, Stephanie, Margaret, Colin, and me (Steve) Dig/ Ernie took the picture and Norman would have been somewhere not far away.

It’s not focused, but it may just jog some memories! Cameras were nowhere near as easy to get a good picture as our phones are today!

The weather was awful for most of the holiday, heavy rain and very cold for summer! (Hence the jackets seen above!)

There are a lot of slides (about 80) that show the sights we saw on the trip. I have not scanned those. There are some amazing slides of the Jungfrau and the high peaks of Austria/ Switzerland, but now we just want to see the old photos he took of our younger selves!

We walked up to Jungfrau Station one day, if I remember right. Margaret, Ernie (my Dad), and myself. I am not sure whether Norman and his family were with us.

What a fabulous view! (I assume I borrowed Dad’s camera to take this one.)

Do you remember the travelling? This last photo may act as a reminder of the many miles of mountain roads we travelled.
